PARKS AND RECREATION PLANNING AND PROJECTS

The Parks and Recreation Department coordinates planning for parks, open spaces, sports facilities and community buildings.  The City of Lacey Comprehensive Plan for Outdoor Recreation, which is updated every 6 years, functions as the primary instrument for identifying and implementing local parks and recreation planning goals and objectives.

Lacey Senior Center Expansion Project Update

The Lacey City Council awarded the bid for the expansion project in the amount of $2,204,000 to Jones and Roberts Company of Olympia, Washington on Thursday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m.

The Ground Breaking ceremony was held on April 26, 2012. Construction started on Monday, April 30, 2012 and is expected to be completed in March of 2013.

The Senior Center will remain open during construction, except for the two summer months of 2012 when programs and meals will be temporarily moved into a school to allow for utility work.

The City of Lacey, Senior Services for South Sound, and a Stakeholders group have been working in partnership with BLRB architects of Tacoma to design an expansion to the existing building. This project will double the size of the 5,000-square-foot facility, increasing capacity in the kitchen, dining and multi-purpose rooms, and creating additional space for senior health, fitness, education and other services.

This project is partially funded through the Washington State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program with $1,000,000 of federal funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
