Services and PermitsPrescription Drug Disposal

The prescription drug disposal drop box is a secure and convenient way to dispose of leftover or out-of-date prescription medicines. The drop box is located outside the main entrance of the Lacey Police Department at 420 College St SE for convenient 24-hour access.
Why should I use it?Letting out-of-date or unused prescriptions sit in the medicine cabinet is NOT a good idea. Too often such medicines are taken by family members or acquaintances and diverted for sale or for recreational use. Taking prescription medication past its expiration date can be dangerous too.
Why can’t I flush old prescriptions?Flushing medicine down the toilet is not a good solution. Septic systems and sewage treatment plants are not designed to completely break down the medicinal compounds which can then end up in our groundwater and surface water.
Who manages this program? The prescription drug disposal program is a collaboration by Thurston County Solid Waste, the Department of Ecology, the Lacey Police Department, and the City of Lacey.
The drop box location offers convenient 24-hour access to the public. The box is located outside the main entrance of the Lacey Police
Department, 420 College Street SE, Lacey, WA, 98503.
