DON’T MISS LACEY’S S.T.E.M. FAIR – SATURDAY, MAY 20
LACEY, WA, May 16, 2017: Lacey’s free, award-winning S.T.E.M. Fair will take place Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Huntamer Park (618 Woodland Square Loop SE, Lacey). The fair showcases Thurston County school clubs, hobbyists, and businesses featuring S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)-related projects, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for all ages.
The S.T.E.M. Fair is a great opportunity for students and the community to learn more about S.T.E.M. subjects and how they are used in real-world applications, in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Highlights from this year’s event include robotics demonstrations, air-powered rocket launchers, a solar-powered ducky dash, drones, military robots, interactive Lego activities, and a fun science show presented by Alex Zerbe, the “Zaniac” at 12 p.m. Alex has performed at over 1,500 school assemblies in 44 states, appeared on America's Got Talent, Last Comic Standing, and national television in China and France. A natural-born motivator and two-time Guinness World Record Holder, Alex knows how to inspire and connect with students of all ages.
The fair also includes the Cool Ride Car Show, presented by and supporting North Thurston Public Schools students. Alongside the car show, students will demonstrate their car-related skills, including repair, maintenance, and diagnostic programs.
Why S.T.E.M.? The Washington State S.T.E.M. Organization website states “S.T.E.M isn’t just for scientists and engineers. Washington’s economy is rooted in S.T.E.M. It’s simple: in the 21st century, STEM opens doors for every student to succeed.”
Lacey’s S.T.E.M. Fair won the 2015 WA Recreation and Parks Assoc. Program Excellence Spotlight Award for Innovative Programming and the 2016 WA Festivals and Events Pacific NW Summit Silver Award for Innovating Programming.
