WHAT MAKES PLAYING AT THE RAC AN UNRIVALED EXPERIENCE?

Premium Surfaces
The RAC features the latest synthetic field turf on all softball / baseball / fastpitch infields and its lighted soccer field.  These premium surfaces offer players a better playing experience and a “true” bounce. Plus, the RAC’s dedicated fields — four softball / baseball / fastpitch fields, one regulation-size baseball field, and six regulation-size soccer / football / rugby fields — eliminate the issues associated with multi-use fields.
Cutting-Edge Systems
The RAC is the result of a carefully considered development process, with the needs of the athlete foremost in mind.  This attention to detail led to the inclusion of cutting-edge systems throughout the complex, including advanced lighting fixtures that deliver exceptional field visibility.  The RAC offers an unrivaled experience.
Family-friendly Features
The RAC is family-friendly by design.  Spectator seating offers a stadium-like view. Concession stands are conveniently located near the playing fields.  Adjacent playgrounds let families have fun and watch the game simultaneously.  Single-stall restrooms are located throughout.  The RAC also offers two miles of walking trails and picnic and outdoor event areas for families and groups.
All-weather Fields
The RAC’s premium surfaces and drainage systems on the turf fields and synthetic fields offer year-round play in extreme weather.  As a result, play continues on both the infields and outfields. Rain will not interrupt your game day.
Expert Staff
The RAC is managed by highly-experienced professionals who are dedicated to delivering the best possible customer service and ensuring your tournament’s success.  Staff is on-site during all tournament play to meet all of your needs.
Continual Improvement
Lacey Parks & Recreation Department is committed to the RAC’s continual improvement.  Feedback from both players and tournament directors is used to enhance maintenance, improve field preparation, and create a premier game-day experience.

History of the Complex
Lacey and Thurston County jointly acquired the 67-acre site in 1998 at a cost of $2,865,538, partially funded with a state grant of $282,802, and undertook master planning for the facility in 2000.  Construction of Phase 1 was completed in 2004, and included four soccer/football/rugby fields.  The City of Lacey acquired a 4.39 acre parcel adjacent to the RAC in 2006 for a future commercial venture at a cost of $435,000.  In 2007, a 25.99-acre parcel of Phase 3 property was acquired at a cost of $2,145,000.  In 2008, construction began on Phase 2.

Designed by Bruce Dees and Associates of Tacoma, the facility received the "2009 Design of the Year Award" from the International Northwest Parks and Recreation Association and the Ron Rowe Community Partnership Award from the Lacey Rotary Club.  In 2006, the Washington Recreation and Park Association (WRPA) presented the Athletic Facility Spotlight Award for Phase 1 Development and again in 2010 for Phase II Development to the City of Lacey and Thurston County.  Ceccanti, Inc. of Tacoma was the project’s general contractor.

The $18.9 million complex was financed through $12.3 million in local Public Facilities District (PFD) financing; $2.4 million in City of Lacey funds, $1.9 million in Thurston County Conservation Futures funding; $1.7 million in Lacey Parks Bond revenue; and $523,000 in grant funding from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO).

The complex is scheduled to be improved in 2010 with additional fencing and netting around two of the softball / baseball / fastpitch fields and two of the soccer / football / rugby fields.

Phase 3 (25.99 acres on the west side of Marvin Road) will be developed in the future as funding becomes available.
